PETER ALEXANDER
A traditional private practice Landscape Architect for over 30 years Peter Alexander graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with degrees in Architecture and Landscape Architecture. He was selected as a President’s Fellow at R.I.S.D. His practice benefits from his previous degree in History and Biology from the University of Denver and continuing post-graduate studies at Harvard and Rutgers.
A lifelong resident of Greenwich Connecticut an avid outdoorsman he is dedicated to preserving, protecting and experiencing the earth’s wonders. His studio in Aspen, Colorado helps to give him a different perspective than New England. Completed and planned projects range from perennial gardens to regional planning.
As host of Town Green radio show he created a venue for non-partisan dialogue regarding our earth’s future. The town green was an essential element during the period of settlement of the U.S. Pilgrims and Puritans agreed that having an area to gather, converse and plan the future would help create a vital connection to dispersed settlers. Now with 300 million in population a venue to discuss community planning is important.
In May 1991 Peter Alexander was part of a team that visited all the countries in the Danube River Watershed. These former member states of the Soviet Union were widely criticized for having large environmental problems. Supported by the Department of State and the Commerce Department the findings and report were not well received by Congress.
This introduction to politically-driven environmental agendas has inspired Mr. Alexander to carefully study reports and conclusions. His recent involvement at the UN Habitat Day and the APA Federal Policy & Program Briefing in Washington, D.C. re enforces that perspective.
